Picks for March 24th, 2010

Last Record: 3-2

Record for the week: 15-7

First off I would like to say sorry for my two day hiatus. My picks should go accordingly with no issue.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals

What is probably the hottest rivalry in the NHL today, the Caps/Pens match-up always has some fireworks. But the issue here with this game is health. Gino Malkin is most likely out for this game and this is a problem for the Pens considering they have scored 14 goals in their last 7 games. Plus on top of that, Jose Theodore has been white hot since January, going 16-0-2 with a 2.40 GAA and .927 spct in that span.

Look for Washington to win a rough game in this one.

Washington over Pittsburgh

Montreal Canadiens at Buffalo Sabres

Both teams have been hot as of late, with Montreal coming of a seven game winning streak and Buffalo winning it's last three. Plus not to mention, Montreal has two of their powerplay specialists, Michael Cammaleri and Marc-Andre Bergeron, coming back from injury. The only issue here is Carey Price is starting, who has played very little in the past two months.

Look for Buffalo to win a high scoring game.

Buffalo over Montreal

St. Louis Blues at Detroit Red Wings

What is probably the biggest game of the season for the Blues. A win will put them within six points of the Red Wings while a loss will all but kiss their playoff hopes goodbye, putting them 10 points behind with 9 games left. One thing that is certain is that both teams are coming in hot, with Detroit and St. Louis holding winning records in their last ten games. The real question here is, which team is hotter?

Look for St. Louis to win this one, making the playoff race a little more fun to watch in the West.

St. Louis over Detroit

Anaheim Mighty Ducks at Vancouver Canucks

What a fall from grace after Anaheim almost made the Western Conference finals last year. They are currently sitting 9 points out of a playoff spot and are looking like they aren't going to make the playoffs this season. Vancouver on the other hand, have hit a bit of a road block, going 1-2-1 in their last four and their goalie and captain looking a little shaky in net. This game will come down to one thing, and that is who will want it more.

Look for Anaheim to take advantage of a shaky Vancouver team

Upset of the Night!!!

New York Islanders at New York Rangers

The battle of New York seems to be a tame one as of right now, with the Isles all but out of a playoff position and the Rangers barely being able to stay pace with Boston. The sad thing about this match up is that both teams hold a losing record, both overall and with home/away records. The Isles are 10-20-7 on the road while the Rangers are 15-17-6 at home. But after Henrik Lundqvist made a comment saying "It's been an effort the past few weeks trying to stay positive."

Look for the Isles to pull off the upset here in a low scoring game.

Alright fans, those are my picks for tonight's games and come back tomorrow for more predictions from the Chicken Man himself.

Last Night's Record: 3-2

Record for the Week: 15-7

Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers

The Battle of the Sunshine State isn't as intense as the Battle of Ontario, but it is a battle non-the-less. With both Florida and Tampa Bay losing a lot as of late, both seem destined to be enjoying the weather on the golf course during the playoffs. But the stats against Tampa Bay are very overwhelming. They have lost their last four at home, only scored 5 times in their last four, have lost 11 of there last 13 games and have a 10-19-6 record on the road.

Look for Vokoun not to get pulled and for Florida to win this one.

Florida over Tampa Bay

Nashville Predators at St. Louis Blues

Both teams scored a 1-0 win last night against their respective teams. But I am going to guess there will be a little more offense in this one. With both teams on a roll right now, it is going to be hard to gauge who will get the upper hand in this one. But with the road team winning every game so far in their six game series and with St. Louis holding a 12-17-5 record at home, it is easy to tell where I am leaning on this one folks.

Look for Nashville to take this one in a low scoring match.

Nashville over St. Louis

Atlanta Thrashers at Philadelphia Flyers

This game last night was one of my losing picks I know, but this is a home-and-home and things change second time around. Although Atlanta is sporting a three game winning streak, it is hard to ignore the facts. Atlanta is 13-16-6 on the road, Philly is 21-12-2 at home, and Atlanta has Ondrej Pavelec in net who has 3.42 GAA and a losing record.

Look for Philly to ACTUALLY win this one. Maybe by two.

Philadelphia over Atlanta

Colorado Avalanche at Anaheim Ducks

Even though Colorado has won four of there last six and have been playing some decent hockey, they have been sliding down the standings with Phoenix and Nashville being on fire as of late. The Ducks have been on a tear as of late, winning there last three games. But the issue is that they lost their last five before that, all but putting themselves out of a playoff spot.

Look for Colorado to win this one in OT. Anaheim is stubborn.

Colorado over Anaheim

Upset of the Night!!!

San Jose Sharks at Edmonton Oilers

Talk about a fall from grace. The Sharks have been brutal as of late, losing their last four on the road and just looking like they are going to be brutal in the playoffs once again. Edmonton has been just as bad, but with a nail biter of a win against Detroit, giving Devan Dubnyk his first win of his career, it might just light a fire under a team that hasn't had one all season.

Look for Edmonton to win a close game against a falling Sharks team.

Edmonton over San Jose
