Picks for March 19th, 2010

Last Nights Record: 4-1
Record for the week: 9-4

Last night I was one overtime goal away from being perfect. The issue is there are only four games for tonight. So here are my picks:

Minnesota Wild at Columbus Blue Jackets

Both teams are fighting for a playoff spot but only one has some kind of shot. Minnesota is currently 6 points out of the playoffs with 12 games remaining meaning they still have a shot. But with Calgary and Detroit both ahead of them, it will be tough. As for the game, both teams defenses are pretty banged up and both teams are playing there back-up goalies. Meaning that goals could be at a premium. Only difference here is the fact that Columbus has a winning home record and Minnesota has a losing road record.

Look for Columbus to win a close, high scoring game.

Detroit Red Wings at Edmonton Oilers

The Detroit Red Wings have been an interesting story this season. After almost two decades of dominance in the NHL, the Red Wings have had an off year, currently fighting with Calgary to hold on to that 8th spot in the Western Conference. Edmonton has been a similar story only to a bigger extreme, being by far the worst team in the NHL this season. In tonights game, Detroit is going in winning five of its last 6 games. Edmonton is well, Edmonton and is starting Devan Dubnyk tonight, who hasn't won a game in his career and averages letting in four goals a game.

Look for Detroit to win this one easily, probably by two.

New York Islanders at Anaheim Ducks

This is a very interesting match-up seeing as this is there only meeting of the season. Both are on the outside looking in and both have winning streaks (Isles with three in a row and Ducks with two). The funny thing is they also have been on a tear beating good teams, with Anaheim beating Chicago and San Jose and the Isles beating Vancouver on the road. The only difference here is that Anaheim has a 21-11-3 at home while New York has a 10-19-6 road record.

Look for Anaheim to win a close game.

Upset of the Night!!!

San Jose Sharks at Calgary Flames

San Jose hasn't been a strong team as of late, losing there last three. Calgary on the other hand, has started to gain some momentum after going on a slide, winning there last game in a very close match-up.There has to be worry coming from the San Jose camp, as once again, the team is starting to fall apart right before the playoffs. Luckily for San Jose at this point in the season, they got a playoff spot already clinched. Calgary on the other hand, is fighting to make the playoffs, being only one point behind the Red Wings for 8th. Add in the factor that in the last match-up between these two teams, San Jose routed Calgary 9-1. Don't think they have forgot that.

Look for Calgary to win this one, giving San Jose a four game losing streak.
